Our Cactus Mix includes 3 plants in Kokedama-style hanging planters. Cacti are a fascinating family of plants with a distinctive form. The cacti in our mixed collection are all small barrel-shaped species with ribs, that allow them to expand and contract as they absorb and use water. Cacti are all leafless - the green tissues in their succulent stems are sufficient for photosynthesis in their sunny arid natural habitats. Leaves and stems are reduced to structures call areoles, which is where their spines and flowers emerge.

The cacti supplied in our selection are provided in small hanging pots, that would look great positioned close to a window.

Cactus flowers are usually brightly coloured with lots of narrow petals. All our potted plants come in compostable coir pots - read more here.

Additional Information

Pets & Children

Cacti are usually very spiny and may cause cuts and puncture wounds on the skin and eyes if not protected. Keep out of reach of small children and display where they won't be knocked over

Country of Origin

Central America, Mexico and Southwestern USA

Habitat Conditions

The cacti in our collection are all natives of the deserts of Mexico and Southwestern USA where they are adapted to high daytime temperatures (and often low nighttime temperatures), and very intense sunlight. They are best displayed in conservatories or on secure windowsills

Plant Care

Light

High light is best for these cacti, and they will do well in direct sunlight

Watering

Cacti require little water and the soil should be allowed to dry out between watering. Water a little more frequently if you see flower buds emerging.

Pruning

Cacti cannot be pruned

Feeding

A weak solution of fertilizer can be added to the water. Specialist cactus fertilizers are available, but they are quite expensive.

Pest & Diseases

Generally pest free, but the occasional mealybug might be found. These should be removed with a pair of tweezers, or a stiff paintbrush, if seen
